Strand Korb or High Back Beach Chair _MG_3534

As soon as I entered the Fair I saw this original typical German Strand Korb or High Back Beach Chair.

Strand Korb

We have a small series here about Beach Chairs, mainly those moderately reclining models with a high back that can protect you against wind and a bit of rain as well. I’ve devoted one post exclusively to the Strand Korb: The High Back Beach Chairs (Strandkorf or StrandKorb) of Bartelmann.

Floriade

The Floriade is a one in ten year event in the Netherlands where all horticulture is brought together in a huge fair where the horticulture industry of The Netherlands and from abroad presents itself to the general public. It is a real spectacle. It still lasts until October 7, 2012.

The Floriade Park covers 66 hectares and encompasses 5 unique themed worlds separated by wooded areas. Each world has its own decor, programme and activities. Worlds in which you’ll see, feel and experience nature in a totally different way each time.

I’ve visited it in June and found this reasonably priced (€ 1,500) Black Strand Korb from modern materials rather than the willowy ones from the past. The distributor wrongfully named it a Beach House.

Nest Lounge Chair by Autoban

Turkish design studio Autoban has a strange name. Their logo is the German sign for Motorway (Autobahn). However without the ‘h’ it could mean Ban the Car. Am curious whether it is on purpose. Anyway they have an ample portfolio of seating furniture among which this nest lounge chair. Another variation on the High Back Beach chair I’m a particular fan of.

Lese+Lebe by Nils Holger Moormann

Lese+Lebe by Nils Holger Moormann 2

Lese+Lebe is German for Read+Live

In a clever way Nils Holger Moormann brings together the traditional North German StrandKorb and a book case.

‘Hieronymus im Gehäuse’, a beach chair on the sea, a Lokomotive dining compartment – Lese+Lebe awakes pictures in us. An escape in the room, which invites you to just sit down and relax while having a cup of tea and browsing in your favourite book.

The back of the two-seater is formed by the shelf itself. On the left or right side of the backrest, a board can be folded down as a table. This makes it possible to access the shelf from both sides. Hidden under the seat are extendable footrests and drawers with a lot of space for stowing.

Plus I’ve updated the Chair Bookcase Combination category.
