Profile Chair by Knauf and Brown
Canadian design duo Knauf and Brown about their Profile Chair:
The Profile Chair was our answer to everything we didn’t like about folding chairs.
Folding chairs are shy, coming out only when extra seating is needed. They are ashamed of their cluttered leg regions, complicated actions, and cheap materials.
The Profile Chair folds on a single axis. This cuts down on intersecting lines and gives the chair a minimal profile that takes up less visual space when open, and less physical space when closed.
Profile Chair is a chair that you can use everyday. The powder coated steel and solid larch make it equally at home indoors and outdoors.

Another chair to be presented at Milan 2011 this month is Piana by British architect David Chipperfield for Italian design company Alessi. Alessi is well known for its innovative designs in mostly all things that can be labelled “accessories”, so a new product being a chair is a unique step for the company.
Piana is a folding and stackable seat that is manufactured from 100% recycled polypropylene and rotates around a single point held by two screws. Available in 6 kitchen-friendly (2 of which even sound yummy) colors: white, raspberry red, saffron yellow, patina green, traffic black and pebble grey.
Bek chair by Giulio Iacchetti is created using special Polygiene technology that gives the chair its unique antibacterial properties (How’s that for a season of flues?). The rigid yet light folding chair comes in red, black, white and green, and a set of 8 chairs can be held by a trolley done in black painted metal.
Tot-Pod by Aldo Barreto for Samsonite
Something to outdo Nestt Kid Car Seat? Probably yes, if not in style than in functionality.
Samsonite is a luggage brand so it’s no wonder their chair had to be multifunctional: it’s foldable and it has a carry handle, making it an ideal baby chair to travel with, and it has wheels if you want to use it as a stroller.
Looking like a clam shell when not in use, this ultra-modern, foldable baby car seat has been designed by Canadian designer Aldo Barreto for a competition for luggage company Samsonite. It has an integrated child restraint system, carrying handle and a multi-purpose storage compartment in the back. The Tot-Pod baby car seat can also be converted to a stroller.
