Luke Pearson and Tom Lloyd founded their award-winning design studio in London in 1997. Both have Masters. Luke Pearson studied industrial design at Central Saint Martins College of Art and furniture design at the Royal College of Art in London. Tom Lloyd studied furniture design in Nottingham and industrial design at the Royal College of Art. Today they are both tutors at the Royal College of Art in London. They also regularly lecture at international conventions such as Design Indaba South Africa and London.
The studio covers such varied spheres as furniture, product, lightning design as well as transport and public design. The studio has an international reputation and collaborates with a broad range of clients. Recent projects include a new lighting system for Westminster in the City of London with Artemide, showering enclosures for Ideal-Standard, the multi-award-winning Upper Class Suite for Virgin Atlantic and most recently the completion of their two economy classes.
I featured Emeco’s Tuyomyo Bench by Frank Gehry earlier, but got a special from Emeco after I had asked for a photo of Frank Gehry and Emeco’s owner together on the Tuyomyo Bench. That was published in a Wallpaper* issue of last year. Alas it was copyrighted, but now I have a second best: The Tuyomyo Bench with the daughter of the owner as a model:-)
Remember me showing you this mystery steel chair frame with chrome finish way back in July 2008?
Recently I got an e-mail from Bill Johnson of Retro Vegas who believes he found a bit more about this chair over at an auction site Live Auctioneers who attributed this chair to Tony Paul / Raymore.
However a comment to the post attributes the chair to Edward Higgins…He has one with gold finish and original seating. I hope he reads this and provides a photo of his one.
Ah there is a site devoted to Tony Paul who is alive and kicking at 90: Tony Paul Design and it is a blog. So I asked them to comment here.
Retro Vegas seems to have a nice original Mart Stam cantilever chair.
This reminds me of a prior post: The Cantilever Chair: By Mart Stam, by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe or by Marcel Breuer?
