Red Rocker

I’ve revisited Vivian Beer’s VB Studio site and was pleasantly surprised, not to say smitten, by the quality of her site where I found this red Rocker.

Red Rocker was a hunt of subtlety within a not-so-subtle color range. I knew it had to be a saturated red but not quite a “lipstick” color…

I settled on one that is based in a violet range rather than a cadmium red. It is a tonal range that has been used on a number of Chevy “muscle” show cars. So it’s a combination of muscle and cosmetic. Lipstick and muscle cars have a lot in common!

I can relate to the choice as once I had to choose a red for a fast boat…the association evident from the front and view of this chair. Red Boats and Red Chairs come together here;-)

Inuit Armor Chair by Lund & Paarmann for Lopfurniture

Inuit Armor Chair by Lund & Paarmann is one of the designers’ new pieces for Lopfurniture and are extension of their current collection.

Inuit Armor Chair is a dining chair in solid walnut, painted steel and Inuit sealskin from the Phoca groenlandicus (Greenland seal). Interestingly, even with sealskin being an extraordinary material, it is one that is legal to buy and sell.

The reason why the designers chose to use Intuit skins is because the Greenland Inuit hunters have great difficulties in selling their sealskin as the EU has made a rule against importing all other sealskins than the sustainable skins from Greenland.

Hemingway Chair

“Hemingway” Chair?

A Twitter friend, @BasBoerman, of a Twitter friend, @WouterBlok, published this chair on Instagram and I asked permission to publish it here which @BasBoerman permitted.

The photo was taken at the pool side of a hotel in Cuba where Ernest Hemingway reportedly wrote one of his famous books. Excellent material for our Chairchez L’Homme category – look for the man in the chair: L’homme (the man) doesn’t sit in (maybe this) chair anymore, a lost search.

Unexpectedly I was in Vienna a couple of days where I could take some chair photos. A couple in the Dorotheum where an auction of modern Austrian design was held at Leap Day….until I was forbidden to take photos by a attendant and I didn’t want to go through the hassle of obtaining a press permit.

Armchair by Heinz Frank. Heinz must love horses;-)
