Yellow Ostrich Stool by Tsai Design Studio

Yellow Ostrich Stool by Tsai Design Studio

In 2009 the Veuve had invited South African designers to contribute a design for the glory of the brand and design itself. Among them was this Yellow Stool by Tsai Design Studio

The design has been in his sketchbook for a number of years, he says. But it was with the invitation to the project and only after meeting collaborating designer Ronel Jordaan that everything came together to create the piece.

The chair, with its slick angular steel and chrome base, includes a bright yellow felt pebble as its seat. The pebble, created by Jordaan, appears simply to float within the steel frame. But Tsai reveals how it deftly detaches from the frame and shows a steel structure hidden inside the bright yellow sphere.

Stretch Collection by Jessica Carnevale

Jessica Carnevale is an American designer who studied industrial design at the Rhode Island School of Design. Stretch is her debut collection.

With “Stretch”, Jessica brings the exuberance of the fashion world into her designs, mixing  textures, materials and patterns. She experimented with a number of different materials before choosing latex, bungee and rope for their bright colors and wondrous elasticity which provides a comfortable and flexible seating surface. Built by Jessica in her studio in Brooklyn she made a simple, artful chair to better frame the compositions that she created. The result is a collection of three vivid pieces which work beautifully on their own but are so much more fun mixed and matched – in your choice of combinations.

COD Project by Rami Tareef

The chairs, that are composed of only two materials, are the product of young designer Rami Tareef‘s COD Project (Crafts Oriented Design). Each chair is created by threading 500 meters of polypropylene cord around 10 meters of steel rod.

From the designer:

“The project tries to illuminate the differences and similarities between craft and design; it tests and stretches the limits of their hybridization, and tries to end up with something identifiable from that past world. The COD project deals with wicker/woven furniture − a traditional craft product − and preserves its production values while incorporating innovative design features from the world of mass production.”
