As usual, from one post comes another. I found another chair by Jacobus Johannes Pieter Oud (1890-1963). This one seems earlier than his two chairs I shared with you here earlier.

Also because I have a slight feeling that the original color of at least the seating was de Stijl Group primary red…Another detail is the strange and seemingly contradiction between a well curved frame and a rather uncomfortable seating with no curve at all, sharp edges and no backward inclination of the seating…

Cool Chair by J.J.P. Oud

Cool Tubular Chair by J.J.P. Oud

Found this photo on the web. It’s of a cool tubular chair by J.J.P. Oud (Jacobus Johannes Pieter Oud 1890-1963), a Dutch architect, member of the Stijl Group and contemporary of Gerrit Rietveld. Oud was also involved in the design of the Weissenhof Siedlung in Germany which got Bauhaus a lot of Fame.

Update January 2023. And you know what? The name of this chair is The Knit Chair or The Knitting Chair….

Abandoned Chair on a Major Historical Site

In Greco-Roman times the city of Paphos in Cyprus was the island’s capital, and it is famous for the remains of the Roman governor’s palace, where well-preserved mosaics and remains of mosaic houses are a major tourist attraction. The mosaics being an important historical spot, it was especially intriguing to find this abondoned house and a chair inside upon taking the wrong turn on the site when I visited.

Castor by Big-Game for Karimoku New Standard – Milan 2011 (07)

A collection of oak furniture by Lausanne-based studio Big-Game will be presented by Japanese design brand Karimoku New Standard in Milan next week, from 12-17 of April. The collection, called Castor, includes a stool and a bench (there’s also a shelf, but here at Chair Blog this interest us just a tiny bit less) – all made from small sections of Japanese oak. The stool is stackable and the bench makes reference to traditional Japanese furniture typology.
