Thonet – Rare Salesman Sample Set

This is a rare set of salesman sample furniture made by Thonet, the master of bentwood furniture creator of the iconic bentwood chairs that altered the direction of furniture design. We estimate the manufacture date to be in the late 1860s. This four piece set is comprised of love seat, chair, rocking chair and table. The maker’s original paper label stating Thonet, Wien (Vienna) Austria, is still affixed to the underside of the table. The bentwood is in very good condition, retaining its original finish with beautiful patina. The wicker is destroyed on all but the rocker, upon which it is in excellent condition. The label is proof positive that Thonet manufactured this remarkable set. It truly is an exceptional and rare find. We offer it in original as found condition. This set is featured, but unattributed, on page 30 and 31 of the publication Bentwood and Metal Furniture. Our set is attributed as it retains the makers label. Thonet Bent solid beechwood, Cane Doll

Pensando ad Acapulco Copper Chair by Ivdesign

Inspired by the iconic Acapulco chair that has its roots in folk design, modernism, and Hollywood glamour, this version designed by Ivdesign is reinterpreted in metal to harmonize ergonomic comfort with retro-modern aesthetic form. The cone-shaped seat is made of three copper wedges (available also in polished brass) supported by three black iron legs. A special process is used to increase the brightness and lightness of the metal, adding a unique shiny finish. A true classic, this chair will be a striking focal point in any decor.

1001 Chair – Daybed by Thomas Hiemann and Markus Dilger

One of my U.F.O.’s (Un Finished Objects):

The 1001 Chair or maybe 1001 Daybed was designed by Thomas Hiemann and Markus Dilger as part of a course at the Berlin Art University (ID5 Interactive Systems faculty) as the result of an iterative draft design process with support of Prof. Burkhard Schmitz and Katina Sostmann.

Funny to see that a WordPress blog with two entries can have such an impact that all the major design blogs picked it up (except we off course)…

With its lounge version the Freya line has been extended to be used in a variety of areas, keeping the same design expression.
