Orange Re-imagined Chair by Nina Tolstrup
Orange Re-imagined Chair by Nina Tolstrup
Tolstrup took chairs she “found in [her] local streets in Bethnal Green” and gave them a new lease of life.
She stripped the old chairs down to the frames, which she powder-coated in bright colours then added new backs and seats that were upholstered locally to match.
There is a message contained in ‘Re-Imagine’ and that is to inspire and encourage us to look again at the unloved furniture in our homes, streets and markets and to make it anew. This is not just a sustainable approach to design and making, but a social one too; through working together with local craft people and pooling resources we can re-imagine the second-hand and redesign our everyday surroundings with our own touch of personality.

Orange Perforated Tolix H Stool by Chantal Andriot
Like explained in an earlier post, Chantal Andriot is the former CFO of Tolix who, together with some employees, bought the company and revived it.
To assist in the artistic direction, Chantal Andriot has chosen the designers Jean-François Dingjian et Eloi Chafaï alias Normal Studio. Their design questions industrial workmanship, freeing it from the past in order to valorise the workshop’s legendary know-how.
