London Design Festival 2008 (6): Pillips de Pury | Vitra Limited Edition 2007 | Kimono Chair by Tokujin Yoshioka

Visiting Phillips de Pury’s premises during during London Design Festival proved to be visiting a chair addict’s Walhalla.

Apart from my normal curiosity, the main teaser was that Phillips the Pury had teamed up with Vitra and had the entire Vitra Edition 2007 on show. The front desk lady told me that they were on sale at the auction, but the catalog doesn’t mention them as being for sale.

One of the items I love on show is this very poetic Kimono Chair of Tokujin Yoshioka.

Update September 26
The lady was right and not right, the Vitra edition pieces were on private sale I now learn from an earlier press release, but I understood from her that they were on auction. Maybe my Dunglish…

This Wicker Felt chair by Marc Newson is for sale at Phillip de Pury’s upcoming sale of tomorrow, see Lot nr 129. I am curious how much it will fetch at this sale at this side of the pond. The wicker version has the following track record at Christies:

  • $3,360 at Christie’s Sale 1749, a mini house sale at New York, Rockefeller Plaza, 28 November 2006.
  • $8,400 at Christie’s Sale 1733, important 20th century decorative art & design, in New York, Rockefeller Plaza, 19 December 2006.
  • $9,600 at Christie’s Sale 1852, 20th century decorative arts and design (various owners), New York, Rockefeller Plaza, 5 June 2007.
  • $11,250 at Christie’s Sale 1950, an important private collection of mid-20th century design, New York, Rockefeller Plaza, 26 September 2007.
  • $5,000 at Christie’s Sale 1942, important 20th century decorative art & design, New York, Rockefeller Plaza, 18 December 2007.

Phillips de Pury’s estimate is £4,000-6,000

The chair fetched £ 3,750 including 25 % buyers premium.

Bone Lounge Seating by Dima Loginoff

Designer Dima Loginoff of Moscow has a creative approach to modern seating as well as several areas of interior design. The young designer won a Design Debut Award for the Bone Lounge shown here, which is actually a compilation of many slightly different panels that when attached make a two sided modern bench style lounge.
