Soft Structure Chair by Ditte Hammerstroem

Soft Structure by Ditte Hammerstroem
In Bistro Light Revisited I promised more of Ditte Hammerstroem, and here it is. As if grandma was busy knitting your a cosy chair.

Ditte:

A sofa that turns itself inside out. The upholstery has been peeled off, turning the bared innards into the face of the furniture. Strips of foam that are woven around the structure explore new upholstery techniques and elevate an anonymous material that we usually keep out of sight. From hidden stuffing to visible surface.

Hm I would call it a settee rather than a sofa…and you?

Velvet Rope Couch by Misha Kahn

The couch is constructed out of poplar, painted and flocked, and upholstered with 100 yards of hand dyed velvet rope.

Coracle & Cargo Chairs by Benjamin Hubert for De la Espada

British industrial designer Benjamin Hubert created Coracle and Cargo for London based furniture manufacturer De la Espada as part of a larger collection. The project called for the use of artisan craftsman, where each piece has the unique quality that only handmade objects can deliver.

“Coracle” refers to small boats, traditionally used in Wales since the bronze age. The woven construction seen on the chair is the same pattern as that found on the vessel. The tri weave is enhanced with the same perforated leather wrapped around the steel frame. The same wrapping is usually found on bike handles, making the chair more tactile and comfortable.

Cargo is a dining/occasional chair made of four automotive leather panels which attach to an ash frame using mechanical fixings. The tailoring of the panels mirror the original intentions for the material, as the hand-stitching gives it a less mechanical character.

Stretch Collection by Jessica Carnevale

Jessica Carnevale is an American designer who studied industrial design at the Rhode Island School of Design. Stretch is her debut collection.

With “Stretch”, Jessica brings the exuberance of the fashion world into her designs, mixing  textures, materials and patterns. She experimented with a number of different materials before choosing latex, bungee and rope for their bright colors and wondrous elasticity which provides a comfortable and flexible seating surface. Built by Jessica in her studio in Brooklyn she made a simple, artful chair to better frame the compositions that she created. The result is a collection of three vivid pieces which work beautifully on their own but are so much more fun mixed and matched – in your choice of combinations.
