Leggia Armchair by Antonio Sciortino

Antonio Sciortino designed the chair for Baxter.

#42 of the 999 Armchairs Book series.

Famous for reinterpreting the art of working the iron in a modern way, Antonio Sciortino is an Italian designer and craftsman. At the age of eight he learned how to be a blacksmith in his brother’s workshop and today his eclectic soul is alive in all his creations. The designer resorts to the use of “cooked” wire, a particular type of more malleable iron that allows the creation of light, versatile furniture and design objects with soft and animated lines, which seem to create “dancing” shadows.

Leggia is an outdoor leather chair designed by Antonino Sciortino with the idea of combining elegance and minimalism in a strong and light seat, suitable for open air and outdoor spaces. Thanks to the sleek design of the stainless steel rods, the clean, minimalist silhouette of the frame contrasts with the comfort of the seat – upholstered in Aku leather for the Outdoor version and Hydro for the Open-Air version – which, suspended like a fabric, is ready to welcome those who sit down. The warm, natural colour of the outdoor leather adds depth, while the matt black painted steel emphasises the strong character of the chair, which blends into any context while maintaining a discreet and sophisticated beauty.
