A bit untimey to be covering the Egyptian design fair from a year ago, but, as they say, better late than never, plus who better to cover it than someone who does love this country (I have 4 visits there under my belt to prove it!). So, here goes.
Curated by the widely appreciated Italian designer Paola Navone, +20 Egypt Design (June 3-7, 2010) showcased products both from the best Egyptian design companies and international brands to achieve the final result of an “emotional melting pot of different cultures.†The event is said to be a long-term project for the country to place Egyptian design as a rapidly emerging player onto the international design map.
The chair that caught my eye from +20 Egypt Design 2010 is the Soheimi Chair by Karim Mekhtigian of Alchemy Design Studio. With its distinctive cut out pattern and a wide curved seat, the Soheimi chair is a mix of the Egyptian culture and contemporary forms.
