While suffering disappointment earlier today at my favorite craft store–they were out of the yarn I wanted–I meandered over to the pattern books and found a copy of Erika Knight’s Simple Knits with a Twist: Unique Project for Creative Knitters ($15.96). I about let out a whoop when I flipped the pages to a picture of this knitted slipcover. I’m not sure how practical it would be, but it certainly is beautiful! Now…if I could just convert the pattern to crochet…..??

2008 has been a busy year for designer luís porém. his latest design is the trico chair, a stacking design with a simple form and complex array of materials. the body of the chair is primarily wood but there are small accents made from metal and textiles. each material is a different colour making each chair a unique exploration of colour and texture. the chair’s form is simple and pared down, highlighting its material properties.

Loveseat 1
Wood, waxed string
32″ x 32″ x 20″
2004
The Loveseat series began with the discovery of several wooden kitchen chairs in a dumpster. I rearranged and distorted the familiar forms, using simple methods and introducing intimate materials, such as leather, hide, hair and sinew, to suggest familial, intimate, and/or dysfunctional relationships between their implied occupants. Their manipulation has been guided by a desire to evoke the experience of individuality and conformity, strength and frailty, connection and isolation, and the experience of pleasure and pain.
