‘Hardcore Softness’ at design miami
Tanya Aguiñiga‘s ‘hardcore softness’ design demonstration at Design Miami 2007 was a crowd favorite. The L.A. based designer worked throughout the event to create numerous versions of her felted folding chair. She displayed the chair in its various stages and demonstrated the process first hand. lab coats were on hand for those visitors who wanted to try their hand at the process.

The Birch Bench by Tanya Aguiñiga.
At a first glance the embrace lounge doesn’t look too impressive, is looking like something very simple, but the embrace lounge has a hidden, body-shaped curve in it, allowing you to feel the comfort of a warm embrace. This piece was inspired by the need for a hug while away from home. The embrace lounge was designed by Tanya Aguiniga, a Los Angeles based furniture designer/maker raised in Tijuana, Mexico. Her work encourages users to reconsider the objects they use on a daily basis by creating work that explores an objects’ unseen aspect, such as half chairs that rely on the wall to function and whose image is only complete as its shadow is cast upon the wall.
