Usually Dutch Designer Sebastian Straatsma is involved in dust collectors….vases are also dust collectors;-)

This rubber chair was featured as part of a project of a Dutch Foundation, Design Den Haag which researches the relation between Design and Government in Europe within an international context, from cultural, economic and social viewpoints.

Celebrating 5 Years Chair Blog with the Thonet Angel Chair (Thonet nr 19)

5 Years ago I started this blog out of my fascination with the Thonet story. Therefore I thought to celebrate with a special one, the Angel Chair or thonet no. 19 which was produced by Thonet Austria between 1887-1919. Geert VanHoutte kindly has send me this photo for publication.

Description
A rare armchair, Model No. 6541, Gebrüder Thonet,

Vienna/Bystritz, 1903/4, bent and stained beech, the upholstery replaced, with stamped Thonet factory mark,
height 113 cm, width 71 cm, depth 84 cm, height of seat 44 cm.

“These armchairs are a rare case in which Gebrüder Thonet managed to be a step ahead of its competitor, Kohn, in the early years of the century. In May 1904, in the company magazine “Thonet Zentral Anzeiger”, two armchairs “with ears” were initially presented with catalogue numbers 1051 and 1052, later changed to 6541 and 6542. The two armchairs were manufactured in Bystritz and were placed on the market one year before Kohn’s 666 Model.” (G. Renzi)
