Berlage Armchair

Hendrik Petrus Berlage didn’t like curves. In his younger years he tried to avoid curves as much as possible especially in his furniture design. This sideview of one of his later armchairs shows he is on the verge of lifting the curve ban. Also his way of constructing the declining back without having to bend the back shows here in a particular way.

Quartz Armchair

Quartz is a sofa designed by CRTL ZAK and Davide Barzaghi and is the result of applying a mathematical series to home furnishings.

Its two-dimensional beechwood structure – pentagons and hexagons – develops three-dimensionally in space thanks to the volumising effect of the natural fiber upholstery.

Materials: solid evaporated beech wood ext. frame; water based polish, walnut rusted grey finish; natural oil and officinal herb based foam padding; aluminium joints, handmade polished.
