My Vist to M&O

For years already I had planned to visit Maison and Objet to view with my own eyes the largest interior fair of Europe, but never succeeded until this year 2017. Instead I visited IMM a couple of times. This year I succeeded to visit Paris and will report on this visit starting with this post. As usual I feature one chair design per post.

Joan Burgasser

In a recent comment I gave to the post The Cantilever Chair: By Mart Stam, by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe or by Marcel Breuer? I first came across Joan Burgasser as a former employee for many years of Thonet USA. It appears she was in charge of marketing and kept a fine archive of Thonet which off course has a rich history. But also she has designed at least one chair that Thonet USA featured: A tubular tub club chair

Gamfratesi’s new Targa Lounge Chair for Thonet Vienna

Gebrüder Thonet Vienna GmbH, now known as Wiener GTV Design had invited Gamfratesi to create a small collection that reflected the clear tradition of bending wood and woven cane, but with contemporary aestethic and proportions.

The result is a sofa, chair and small writing desk. The collection has been presented during the Salone del Mobile in Milan 2015.

The Targa sofa was winner of the EDIDA – Elle Decor International Design Award as Best Furniture of the year in 2016

GamFratesi is the Danish/Italian design duo Stine Gam and Enrico Fratesi. Their office is in Copenhagen.

Each of the pieces of this collection comes in striking but neutral colors that are bound to make a statement. The chairs are made of bent beech with an upholstered backrest and Vienna straw border. Soft and curvy, Targa is sleek and luxurious, but not too stuffy. Its round shape encourages intimate and cozy socializing, and is perfect for residential spaces with an unconventional twist.

2 Seat

2seat is a chair with two faces that invites you to interact in a new manner with the most often used object, the chair. It is an interactive design due to the fact that by simply turning the chair over, you transform it into a low chair, and the process can be reversed. Both sides are carefully designed, in relation one to each other, in order to control the final volume but without compromising the ergonomy of either one.

Material: birch plywood with natural finish lacquer.

Sizes: L 810 mm x l 400 mm x h 790 mm
