Long on my back burner this photo of the Snake Chair by Nicky de Saint Phalle: Actually since the Snake Chair by Eileen Gray fetched its world record…
I don’t even know where I picked it up anymore, but too colorful not to share it with you.
Remember my post The Chair and The Nobel Price with The Empty Chair which was reserved for Liu Xiaobo who could not attend the ceremony, because he was detained by the Chines government?
The occasion has inspired young German designer Tino Seubert to design a Nobel Peace Price Chair. A nice one, I would say.
Tino Seubert was born on December 29, 1986 in Forchheim, a suburb of Nuremberg in Germany. He went to Bolzano (Italy) to study design. In Paris he spent a year doing graphic design and he worked there for a Gallery.
A bit untimey to be covering the Egyptian design fair from a year ago, but, as they say, better late than never, plus who better to cover it than someone who does love this country (I have 4 visits there under my belt to prove it!). So, here goes.
Curated by the widely appreciated Italian designer Paola Navone, +20 Egypt Design (June 3-7, 2010) showcased products both from the best Egyptian design companies and international brands to achieve the final result of an “emotional melting pot of different cultures.†The event is said to be a long-term project for the country to place Egyptian design as a rapidly emerging player onto the international design map.
The chair that caught my eye from +20 Egypt Design 2010 is the Soheimi Chair by Karim Mekhtigian of Alchemy Design Studio. With its distinctive cut out pattern and a wide curved seat, the Soheimi chair is a mix of the Egyptian culture and contemporary forms.

Luckily I’ve found some connections and can relate this beautifully crafted Sheep Chair to Tetsuro Yokota for Interior Nasu
