Bouloum by Oliver Mourge

This human body shaped chaise lounge is named the bouloum lounge. With its anthropomorphic form, the Bouloum was named after a childhood friend of its designer, Olivier Mourgue, who took the charismatic seat with him when he travelled… even going so far as photographing it in various situations and writing anecdotes. As comfortable as it is provocative, one simply must experience the Bouloum to fully understand it. But be warned… once experienced, you will simply have to have one of your own…. it is that comfortable. Playful and practical, Bouloum is in the permanent collection of the Museum of Modern Art in New York.

Today here is another table from the saving space category. The medium high chairs are made from dense foam while featuring a metal rail detail to give it a neat look on the top, in addition to a laminated top and spun metal support. This this seating arrangement is practical, and also looks awesome when is not in use, I like to call it “The Apple” table, because it really looks like a red, tasty apple.

Marta is an industrial designer with 3 years experience in fixtures and products. His immense passion for design has lead him to work with a multitude of disciplines and give form to his creativity. One work worth mentioning is a lounging unit from his Urban Collection dubbed as the Bulb. It’s a seating arrangement that can utterly functional when in use and when put aside, it can add décor to any place that it rests on. The medium high chairs are made from dense foam while featuring a metal rail detail to give it a neat look on the top, in addition to a laminated top and spun metal support. It’s not only an amazing piece of furniture, but strikes as a beautiful bulb when packed aside!

Rietveld: by Cassina, by Rietveld and by Jenner

Red Blue Rietveld Chair (Photo Moma)
ZigZag by Jenner
Dutch architect and designer Gerrit Rietveld after whom the Amsterdam art school Gerrit Rietveld Academie has been named, designed the Red and Blue (in 1917) and Zig Zag (in 1932) chairs which are world famous.

By Cassina:
Red-Blue and Zig Zag are still being produced by Cassina in their Master “I Maestri” Series.

By Rietveld:
In 2004 a grandson and a great grandson of Gerrit have formed a company Rietveld by Rietveld to start again with the production of several of Gerrit’s furniture designs, because as they say: There is more to Rietveld than the Red-Blue and ZigZag only: All in all there are 215 Rietveld furniture designs. So there remains a lot to do for them.

By Jenner:
I tried to find a flashier photo of ZigZag on the web, but found this photo of Edward Jenner, a Dutch architect who after obtaining the book “How to construct Rietveld furniture” made his own ZigZag. Although it is not the nicest photo, I believe his ZigZag copy is very much how Rietveld himself would have made it. In addition I adore the Rietveld Babychair copy Jenner made for his daughter:

Can you imagine that Ludwig Mies van der Rohe designed this chair already in 1929?
