Brickchair by Studio Pepe Heykoop

The Brickchair is a project about interpretation and imagination. Created by Dutch designer Pepe Heykoop as a result of being inspired by a drawing (see above) from LA artist James Gulliver Hancock, the chair is made with children’s building blocks. Playful and imaginative, the Brickchair makes you think of what it’s like to “start with a single block and take it wherever you want it to go.” Soon to be taken into production by Furnism.

Serena & Lily Poufs and Ottomans

Came across the sweet and lovingly made furniture pieces by the USA based Serena & Lily and was especially drawned to their beautifully crafted low seats – made to order, they look like they could have been some royal family’s beloved possesion in the past. Two of my personal favorites are:

Moroccan Leather Pouf works double duty as a footstool or extra seating. Handmade by artisans in Morocco, each one is unique, with subtle variations in color, where individual pieces of leather are dyed to perfection, then stitched together and embroidered by hand.

Chakki is a cross between an ottoman and a stool inspired by traditional Indian mills used to grind wheat and other grains. The base, which is made in India, is solid mango-wood finished with low-VOC stain in dark walnut or painted white. The plush cotton cushion can be slipcovered in any of the 12 upholstery fabrics offered.

Plantation Chair by Georgina Brett Chinnery

The Plantation Chair by Georgina Brett Chinnery is an “antique Georgian frame covered with natural hand tooled leather featuring a tree design, finished with close nailed nickel studs and a hand stitched cushion (not shown in the picture)”.

The chair is part of Georgina’s new collection “Flora and Fauna” and is on show in the Project Space at Collect, The International Art Fair for Contemporary Objects, 6-9 May at the Saatchi Gallery in London.

Stacking Throne by Laurens van Wieringen Milan 2011 (12)

Amsterdam based Laurens van Wieringen has this pretty piled-up kid’s chair to present in Milan this week.

Material: Foam, soft coating, lacquered wood & steel
Size: 92,5 x 74,5 x 85,5

The Stacking Throne was a private commission and especially designed for 1 year old girl, Bodile. She can now use it throughout her life. 4 of 5 foam parts can be taken out and used as her imagination suits her. Some girls just get lucky!
