Snake Armchair by Eileen Gray fetched an Auction World Record

Eileen Gray’s (1878-1976) Snake Arm Chair fetched a whopping Euro 21,905,000 ($28,238,277) at Christie’s auction of Yves Saint Laurent et Pierre Bergé’s collection of artefacts on February 25, 2009.

It was reported to be bought by the same antique dealer who sold the chair to Yves in the 70ies.

Thus far it is a world record amount offered for a chair.

Very nice chair over priced but the dealer whom bought it must be able to sell on for a profit unless he has bought the remaining five of which are not acountable for so i am led to understand, the name i suppose is to the eye of the beholder but it was cataloged in her design book as dragons chair

  2. The chair has no visually redeeming qualities. The price says a lot about the buyer and fiat money. There is a pathology here. We just have to locate it.
