Aspen Sofa by Jean Marie Massaud

When two names like Cassina and Jean Marie Massaud team up the results are bound to be impressive, and more than likely very contemporary. The Aspen opposing sofas work well together as a long sleek single seating surface, or as individual chaise lounges. Cassina’s Aspen collection includes an end table suspended on a center cylinder that blends into the side of the sofa in a very smooth transition. The sofa comes in 180 and 260cm lengths and delicately floats on two feet that remind me of ice skate blades. Here Aspen is combined with another Massaud design, the Auklund lounge chair and ottoman shown in black leather, for a most stunning modern statement.

Asplund Showroom

Swedish brothers Michael and Thomas Asplund founded Asplund in 1989 as a furniture gallery and showroom. After realizing the public’s significant interest in Swedish furniture, they began producing their own pieces with some local designer friends. Since they they have grown into one of the top Swedish manufacturers, producing carpets, storage systems and furniture pieces from some of Scandinavia’s best designers. They now have 2 showrooms in Japan.
During the Stockholm furniture fair they held a party at their Stockholm showroom to debut their 2008 collection, a number of Asplund’s design collaborators were there to celebrate.

About Walking Chair

Walking Chair Motto

Walking Chair is a design Studio with a Gallery and a web shop, Walking Things. Their studio is located in what used to be a classic high ceiling Viennese café, which later was converted into a motor garage. Meeting six years ago while working as freelance designers for the Lomographic Society on a new type of handset, the Swiss born, Basel trained, typeface, typographic, filmmaker and communication designer Fidel Peugeot joined forces with the Italian, Vienna trained, mechanical engineer turned product designer Karl Emilio Pircher.

Walking Chair Designs:
I found two chair related designs by Walking Chair:

Walking Chair Monte Bello Sofa

and

Banja Luka Chair
Their Banja Luka Chair

They featured Martino Camper’s 100 chairs project from September 28, 2006 – December 24, 2006 in their Walking Chair Gallery.

I was in Vienna in that period, but alas missed this opportunity lacking time and knowledge (I hadn’t started this Blog yet).
