Bolt Stool by Note Design Studio

Bolt was originally part of the ‘Marginal notes’ exhibition held by Note design studio collective as a creative stunt in 2010. The concept of the exhibition was to produce in real life the doodles and ‘marginal notes’ that the members of the creative collective had in their notebooks, however crazy they might be.

The ‘BOLT’ presented in the exhibition was really 4 logs held together by a metal ring. It was not possible to seat on it and even the members of Note were skeptical about the possibility to make it a practical piece.

After numerous prototypes, La Chance artisans and Note design studio managed to create the final design of one of the signature pieces of the brand and won the prestigious Wallpaper design award the year following its release.

Note Design Studio is a collective of

architects, graphic & product designers established in Sweden in 2008. They presented their first furniture pieces in 2010 during the Marginal exhibition where the colorful and sculptural creations were to define Note’s identity and originated their career as one of the main player in nowadays Nordic design scene.

July Stool by Nao Tamura

July Stool by Nao Tamura

Finish furniture firm (say that 10 times, then read on) Nikari asked 12 designers to create a wooden product, each being released once a month in a year-long initiative titled “Project 2012 Design for Nature.” For the month of July, Nao Tamura created this gorgeous stool that celebrates the imperfections of nature.

Like a bundle of wooden logs, three individual “slices” — unequal in size, variegated in grain and color, and uneven surface angles — unite to create a beautiful, singular form.

Each stool enjoys its own sense of individuality. Together, in multiples, they create a sculptural seating display for gathering spaces.

Duo Stool by Olio Objects

designnimbus:

This great little Duo stool by Melbourne design studioOlio Objects can be used as a stool, side table or hung upside down as a serving tray/ shelf. The design is held together by friction (the Tasmanian Oak dowel is tapered to fit securely within the copper fittings). Ready made parts inspired this fun design.

Olio Objects is a design studio started by Georgi Lewis that creates products and the processes to manufacture, promote and sell those products. The aim of the studio is to design with the end in mind and make objects that promote valuable crafts, are created responsibly and that can be enjoyed by the customer on more than one level.

The inspiration for this experimental piece came from a challenging brief to design a low tech product that could be made in a home workshop, out of standardised existing materials. This item can be made completely from salvaged materials.

The Duo stool can be purchase from Schtick and is in the window of Schtick on Lygon for the rest of July and into mid August.

Price: $250

Senta Stool by Fernando Brizio

SENTA

FERNANDO BRÍZIO
STOOL
AGGLOMERATED CORK, WOOD

Senta is a contradiction on 4 legs: the possibility to sit down while on the move, to harmonize your nomadic and contemplative instincts.

A fool-proof, pack & carry stool you can assemble and use anywhere, Senta fits 4 wooden legs into a cork seat that is both sturdy and flexible, making for a comfortable sitting spot. Cut into the cork body, two oval-shaped openings attest to its on-the-go potential: with no assigned spot in the house, it can smoothly fit an extra person at the dinner table or give you those extra inches to reach a tall kitchen cabinet.
