Colony Armchair by Skrivo for Miniform

Skrivo is the design studio of Stefan Krivokapic

The Colony armchair has a steam bent beach frame with a seat/backrest in open webbed cane. A series of upholstered cushion complement the chair by adding additional comfort.

Caning has always caught our eye. It is functional, sustainable, resistant, lightweight, and most importantly it reminds us of furnishings from the past. From its origins in Southeast Asia to its introduction in Europe that ranges from French baroque to Austrian industrial age seating.

While researching the caning process we realized that it is very suitable for shaping allowing it to follow a wooden frame relatively well. A contemporary look is achieved by designing the armchair in multiple colours and making the structure more angular compared to more traditionally caned furniture. This in turn creates greater contrast between the frame and caned sections of the chair.

My love of architecture started from an early age. Both my parents are architects and our home was furnished by the modern classics. I was fascinated by the modernity and timelessness of the furniture that came with us from house to house, transforming our environment whilst forming early memories of home. I studied architecture at the University of Sydney, graduating on the Dean’s Honours List in 2002. I then went abroad to work in London with a firm that specialised in sustainable, mixed-use projects. Returning home to Australia, I worked for a few years in the family business before setting up my eponymous studio in 2013 focusing on high-end residential projects and contemporary furniture.

Series Z Wingchair by Roan Barrion

I found Roan Barrion via a link to his old blog that pointed to a newer Tumblr blog and eventually to Roan’s website which features his Z series Wingchair.

Roan Barrion is a furniture and object designer based in Canada. His work has been featured in Architectural Digest and Bo Bedre, and in exhibition in Paris and across Canada. Before founding his own design practice, he spent nearly two decades in the furniture industry, the majority as a specialist in 20th Century design and decorative arts. His online gallery was one of the first in Canada to offer works by Charlotte Perriand, Jean Prouve, Alexandre Noll, Gio Ponti and Gino Sarfatti. Among his notable finds were a rare set of Eames splints produced by Artek, uncovering a previously unknown collaboration between Eames and Aalto. In 2014 he founded Roan Barrion Design,
