Piana by David Chipperfield for Alessi – Milan 2011 (05)

Another chair to be presented at Milan 2011 this month is Piana by British architect David Chipperfield for Italian design company Alessi. Alessi is well known for its innovative designs in mostly all things that can be labelled “accessories”, so a new product being a chair is a unique step for the company.

Piana is a folding and stackable seat that is manufactured from 100% recycled polypropylene and rotates around a single point held by two screws. Available in 6 kitchen-friendly (2 of which even sound yummy) colors: white, raspberry red, saffron yellow, patina green, traffic black and pebble grey.

Christopher Stott: Two Times Chairs and Luggage

Two Paintings with a Chair by Christopher Stott
Two Paintings with a Chair by Christopher Stott

Noticed Christopher Stott‘s two very real paintings of a chair and luggage as if he wants to ask you: “Stay home, snug in your chair or go away, to the office or into the world?”.

DIY: The Four Hour Chair

Swedish student Dag Elfgren has created a builder’s manual for all those who want to make their own chair from scratch. The manual is available for free download at his blog.

The Four Hour Chair is designed to be inexpensive and easy to build. Anyone who attended at least one class of woodshop can build the chair in around 4 hours, spending less than $25 on material.

One of our Facebook fans, La Duchesse et le Crapeaud, pointed me to the Hasard Cheratte Chair.

Hasard Cheratte is a Belgian Coal mine which closed in 1977. Since then it is a fave exploration object for urban explorers and photographers whose subject is abandoned places. A whole new category opens up for Chair Blog, the abandoned chair

This chair was used to operate winches for a heavy piece of a crane or a lift in the mine.
