MoCo Loco: R606 Uno by Bartoli Design

The R606 Uno chair by Bartoli Design and Fauciglietti Engineering for Segis is a recent winner of the Adi Compasso d’Oro 2008 Award. The chair looks simple enough, but makes use of the patented R606 polymer that adds an element of flexibility to a rigid frame. The seat and backrest allow the user to sink into the chair and feel “heldâ€Ã¯Â¿Â½ by the material while enjoying the sturdy support of the exterior frame.

THE BATTLE CREEK VIBRATORY CHAIR What the hell was it? A spasmodic seat that shook the sitter violently-until he relented and stood up. Conceived by Corn Flakes creator and bowel redeemer John Harvey Kellogg, this one was featured at his Michigan sanitarium. Debut: Circa 1900 The promise: Being shaken, not stirred, will stimulate intestinal contractions and, therefore, leave you with a cleaner colon. Our verdict: Sitters surely felt like Wile E. Coyote on "ACME Earthquake Pills." Reminds us of English nannies and baby-shaking scandals. "You might as well have sat on a hansom cab over a back-country road," says Seabourne.

New Designers 08: designer Max Frommeld exhibited his Showcase stool at New Designers last month. The stool is held rigid by tension in the twisted rope. No tools are required for assembly but an object of the owner’s choice is required to maintain the tension.
