Eiry Rock – Furniture Designer/Maker

Biography

I grew up in Wales where I studied at the Glamorgan Centre for Art and Design Technology and was awarded the Art and Design Award 2003. Following that I moved to Leicestershire to study Furniture Design at Loughborough University School of Art and Design, where I graduated with a BA (Hons) in 2007. Since graduating my work has received much praise and my career within the design field is developing at an exciting rate. I am now based in Leicester where I am gaining further experience in furniture making at Thorpes: Bespoke Joinery and Furniture, while developing my design ideas and focussing on the core values of my design interests.

I have recently been awarded Design Factory ‘Designer of the Year 2007’ and was presented with my award at 100% Design in September. The winning design, ‘Box Chair / Child’s Chair’, will take centre stage with Design Factory, the East Midlands leading design organisation, on their stand at 100% Design 2008.

After being hand-selected to exhibit at Lustre, the East Midland’s premier Craft Makers Market hosted by the Lakeside Arts Centre, Nottingham in November, I was awarded the ‘Hub Innovation Prize’ for demonstrating a challenging and innovative use of form, material and concept. I am now in the process of developing my work in preparation for showcasing with the Hub: National Centre for Craft and Design in September 2008, whilst working towards other projects.
