Seat Down, Please Pouf by Maria Kymosova at 2011 IMM Cologne (7)

Seat Down Please Pouf by Maria Kyrmosava

Russian St Petersburg’s ArtFuture design school had a small, but interesting booth at IMM Cologne 2011. Here the barbed wire “Seat Down, Please” Pouf by Maria Kymosova…I believe it should read “Please Be Seated Pouf”. I had a laugh as many chairs at the exhibition had a sign “Please do not sit!” or “Please do not touch” which I find really really strange as a chair is an object to use, or is it?

Another take on origami inspired chair design – Origami Chair by Ukrainian designer Vasiliy Butenko of Sergey Makhno’s Interior Workshop based in Kiev. Sleek and well crafted, the chairs come in a variety of eye pleasing colors.

The wine-coloured Origamis above are pictured in a small meeting room of one of the office spaces partners Makhno and Butenko worked on together.

At 100% Design London of September 2008 it was my camera that pointed me to the Timber Stacker Chair by David J. Irwin, nicely curved and nicely executed. Available as chair and as armchair via Deadgood.

About David J. Irwin

David J. Irwin is a designer based in Newcastle Upon Tyne, currently undertaking the Designers In Residence Scheme at Northumbria University, working within the spectrum of furniture, product and occasionally urban design.

His design focus is founded on a deep interest in material manipulation through the appropriate use of both traditional and contemporary processes. The goal with all his work is to combine a strong concept with a fundemental usefullness.

So you see I’m really trying to get through my backlog. The second photo also features David’s Yed Chair for Habitat.

Kids Globo by Amazonas

One of the apartment makeovers TV shows here in Russia (today’s Kvartirniy Vopros on NTV channel) just featured a room re-design that very well showcases the idea of how the whole decor concept can be created around just one object – in our case, a chair.

The show’s decorators chose the Kids Globo swinging hanging seat by Amazonas, and by the end of the show the choice proved to be a success. When asked what the show participants liked the most about  their renewed room, the answer was definite – “The chair!!!”. Who would’ve doubted. This is exactly what I’m talking about, kids!.. It’s all about chairs.

There’s also a  Double Globo for the grown ups still in touch with their inner child, or for the grown ups who are parents to more than just one kid and need a chair that can fit all.
