Confession Chairs by Arik Levy

“Recently some clerical members of a certain church are being exposed and under fire for having behaved inappropriately with young children. Therefor there may be a huge demand for these Confession Chairs by Arik Levy for those members of the clerus” I thought when I saw them first.

But from the outset the inspiration seemed slightly different, according to Paris based Galerie SLOTT:

Exhibition « Preliminaries » : design at the threshold of love.
As an extension of a project on the theme of love, SLOTT gallery and Exquise Design® have invited four designers to play out their fantasies, giving shape and meaning, breathing life into their conceptions of preliminaries. They have approached this subject from different and complementary viewpoints that together offer a panorama of creation like no other seen before….

and

With his installations, Arik confesses, bares his soul and invites us to do the same. His starting point is the observation that most Parisian couples end up divorcing and that building a life as a couple is an extremely fragile enterprise. Failure to communicate well is often at the root of this problem. Taboos and unspoken truths eat away at a couple’s harmonious existence. Confessions allow this trust to be rebuilt.

The chairs were on exposition at Milan Mobile in April 2010 at The Straf Design Hotel.

England’s Dreaming Chaise by FAT

I had to show this to you as it was on exposition at the Stroom Gallery here in The Hague, my hometown, while I wasn’t aware of it…

England’s Dreaming is an antique chaise that is enveloped at one end by a miniature landscape juxtaposing scales and visual references. Lie back and think of England.

Via FAT which stands for Fashion Architecture Taste.

Enzo came together with a group of creative friends on occasion of their participation in the Cartasia 2010 Biennial of Contemporary Art which will be held in Lucca, Italia from June 19 – July 18, 2010.

It gave them the opportunity to rethink the use of old books that are about to end in a trash bin. They decided to give the old books a second life as chairs. The installation by Ri-Parliamone was showcased during a preview of the 2010 Biennial in Lucca from September 5 – October 3, 2009.

The books are soaked in a solution of water and vinyl glue to give them the necessary rigidity and resistance. Once dry they are given a coat of water-based paint. Subsequently they are assembled on a pallet, glued together and connected internally by a small metallic structure which guarantees its stability.
Being exposed to all weather conditions for a month, a transparent coat of water resistant paint is given for further safety.

Mission No.2 : ERIC KU – Puzzle Chair

Cardboard Puzzle Chair (with 2 meanings) by Eric Ku:

An inspiration from the American contemporary artist Joseph Kosuth, One and Three Chair.

Instead of giving a new definition, I redefined the concept of a chair by using the alphabet. One is able to construct a chair by assembling the redesigned alphabet.

And here Joseph Kosuth’s One Two Three Chair installation that Eric used as his inspiration:

Kosuth’s work is all about meaning:
1) The word chair explained 2) A photo of a chair and 3) a real chair, all put together in one installation.
