Two-Legged Curt Deck Chair by Bernhard Burkard

At first glance, Curt by Bernhard | Burkard is a simple deck chair. But take a closer look at it from the side and its form doesn’t appear to be so simple anymore: Curt has only two thin match-like legs to hold balance and has to lean against a wall or rails in order to be used. But fear not, the legs have anti-slip coating helping the chair stay put firmly in place.

The Swiss design studio BERNHARD | BURKARD was established in 2010 by Fabian Bernhard and Thomas Burkard. During their time together as students they soon realized the potential that derives from the synergy of their individual skills and approaches to design. Before setting up their studio Fabian was working as creative director at capartis AG. Thomas used to work for the well known designer Michael Young in Hong Kong.

Anchored Candy no2 by Vivian Beer

Vivian Beer

I can’t get enough of my fave category Chairchez La Femme. This time the lady behind her chairs: Vivian Beer and why not chose high heels as your inspiration?

Vivian Beer is fearless. That’s really the best way to describe her. The 33-year-old designer/maker takes steel and cuts it. Bends it. Shapes, welds, grinds, and sands it. She transforms it – by hand and machine – from rigid raw material into impossibly curvy furniture and sculpture. And she does all of this, more or less, alone.

Vivian Beer’s 2011 solo shows are at Courthouse Gallery Fine Art (Jul. 13 – Aug. 7), Manhattanville College’s Arthur M. Berger Art Gallery (Sept. 6 – 30, partnered with Purchase College), and Wexler Gallery (Oct. 7 – Nov. 25).

Via – and read more about her at American Craft Magazine | Curves Ahead.

Siesta by Emanuele Magini for Campeggi

Siesta by Emanuele Magini for Italian furniture maker Campeggi is a hammock-like bench that combines the silhouette of a traditional wooden bench with the comfort of a hammock – perfect for “watching the clouds pass by”.

Concrete “Soft” Chair by Anne-Mette Manelius

Concrete Cloth Chair by Anne-Mette Manelius

Concrete Cloth Chair by Anne-Mette Manelius - Detail

I found this blog Concretely by Danish architect Anne-Mette Manelius. As she shares part of her name with my daughter she earns a plus. She is also obsessed by concrete. So obsessed that she wrongly claims concrete is the “most used building material in the world”. That, Anne-Mette, is not true, as the most used building material in the world is adobe, or simple clay or earth.

Nevertheless Anne-Mette has created a concrete chair whereby she has formed it as if it is an upholstered chair covered with a soft fabric, the texture of which she has applied to the concrete. Mind Boggling Indeed.

Mr. Chair by Soojin Hyun – Milan 2011 (24)

Mr. Chair by Soojin Hyun
One of our FaceBook fans suggested after the previous post:

and why not try to influence some female designers to photograph their prototypes with lightly-dressed sexy men on them ?

Here is an answer. A female designer from South Korea, who graduated from the Dutch Design Academy in Eindhoven has worked it out for us all with her Mr. Chair: It simply doesn’t need a model having a six pack from itself:-). However with model it does catch eyes as well:

However, one has to see the front of the chair first before understanding this photo….

Designer : Soojin Hyun (Design Mong Studio), Sangho Park(VIN & Co.)

Photographer : Mina Hwang

Model : Misun Lee

During our research of chairs, we found that armchairs and men have a lot in common, Men have arms, skin, and muscles and comparatively, armchairs have arms, leather and cushion. Mr. Chair shows the commonalities with a dignified wit.

** we have a plan to show different colors of Mr. Chair, such as human skin has different colors.

Size : 884 x 872 x 1077mm

Material : Cowhide, Metal

With a male model it certainly works better:

Now I’m daring the (male) Facebook fan to come up with a classy photo of himself on his own chair:-)
