An Aeron Chair Gets Built Every 17 Seconds

Fun fact: an Aeron chair gets built every 17 seconds.

It didn’t always use to be like that though. The Kaizen (“continual improvement”) process was imported to Herman Miller directly from Toyota, in the 1990s, and was exactly what changed the speed of chair making. To compare, a new Aeron chair used to come off the line every 82 seconds, now it’s boxed and finished every 17 seconds, yep. You can read more about it on fastcodesign.com

Pressed Chair by Harry Thaler

Pressed chair is a pressed aluminium chair by Harry Thaler that comes flat and can be bent into a super-light stackable chair.

The end result is light enough to be lifted with only two fingers, but extremely strong and durable even without any external structural support. Thaler’s creation is indeed a chair that pushes the limits of minimization and material!
