Sushi Table and Stool combination

Sushi Table and Stool combination by Gloster

Lately we’ve seen several table-and-four-chairs combos that combine into a single monolithic unit. While the supposed space-saving benefits of such designs don’t seem real to us, they do make for some pretty aesthetics.

Fold Down Chairs by Egbert-Jan Lam

Fold Down Chairs by Egbert-Jan Lam

Enhancing floor space is one of the coveted qualities of modern furniture with designers increasingly stressing upon furniture that can make even a small space look as open as possible. Taking this line of thought a step or two further, Dutch designer Egbert-Jan Lam, who founded his own company BuroJET in 2002, came up with a whole range of furniture that uses zero percent of your floor space. Literally, since Lam’s Plano collection features a set of flat furniture that can lay flush with the wall, fold down and transform into an off the wall item. Thus the furniture seems to be glued to the wall and appears to be floating off the floor. I’m not quite sure these pieces can ever be incorporated into daily usage, but it definitely would make a great accent piece in offices ad hotel lobbies.

Fantastic Plastic Elastic – FPE Chair by Ron Arad

FPE Chair by Ron Arad

Fantastic Plastic Elastic is the name concealed behind the initials of the FPE Chair. The seat/back body is grafted onto the supporting aluminum structure, giving the chair both qualities of resistance and flexibility and characteristics of lightness and practicality. Easy to stack, it lends itself to characterizing communal places (from bars to work spaces) and domestic spaces. Thanks to the materials it is made of, it lives perfectly outside. Minimum order quantity of 2.

More Decent Nudevertising for Chairs: The Philippe Starck Ero|s Chairs

The Ero s Swivel chair, Photo Ultra Modern

I was wrong in my previous post: There are more nudevertisers for chairs. Only when I saw these pictures again, I realized I had seen them earlier.

At that earlier occasion I was not able to grab the photos efficiently and let it pass.

Now I have an efficient way of grabbing photos from all over the web, since I have installed a mini blog parallel to this blog: Chair Blog | Tumblr with widget and all and the possibility to read it in your News Reader.

So now I can keep you more up to date now. See for more background of a Tumblr account my other blog: Happy Hotelier – Tumblr and Organizing Your Blog(s).

About the chair

Why don’t they simply coin the chair Eros Swivel Chair? I believe they are afraid of reactions from rather puritan markets. But then: why advertise with, granted it is decent, nudity?

In the Round (stitch) Chair by Brent Cordner

In the Round (stitch) Chair by Canadian designer Brent Cordner.

Luflic had some amazing chairs at Toronto’s Interior Design Show this past weekend, really catching the collective eye with two pieces called In The Round. Both these production-ready chairs, designed by Brent Cordner, are named after the in-the-round knitting technique and over 50 feet of wool sleeve is used to cover the tubular steel frame for the felt version and 30 feet for the stitch version.

Update: The site Luflic has disappeared since.
