Actually Soojin Kang has patched up a late Thonet No 14 Chair…

Born in Seoul, South Korea, Soojin Kang graduated from Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design, London with a Masters in Textile Futures in 2009. Through focusing equally on aesthetics and tactility, Kang seeks to evoke a heightened, intensified state of being in all who interact with her work. She works on creating new identities and strives to tell stories through her designs. As a creative, Kang works on a broad range of projects, though her inspiration always comes from the same place – from materials, colors and the feelings they conjure up.

Craiglists find: the “Alice In Wonderland” Wicker Chair

The anonymous “Alice In Wonderland” style wicker Chair found on Craiglists

I was fooling around in Craiglists San Francisco Antique Sales today and found this exquisite, “Alice In Wonderland” style, wicker chair. Not only is it ornately woven, what seams to be like metal also shows great details and extreme uniqueness. The reason why I call it the “Alice In Wonderland” style chair is because it reminds me of the Queen of Hearts(red queen) played by Helena Bonham Carter, with a similar large red head and relatively small body. Among my imagination, any identification of this chair will be highly appreciated!

FF1 Chair by Fox and Freeze

FF1 Chair by Fox & Freeze in white

FF1 Chair is a surprisingly strong and sturdy felt chair created with simply 1 square sheet of synthetic felt and flax ropes. The unique shape and structure gives it strength without any wood or metal. Also put in mind, almost no material was wasted(except the drilled holes) in the form of this chair. I really think that Fox & Freeze did a marvelous job designing this piece. FF1 is available in white and grey through Fox & Freeze’s. Also, check out the sturdiness of it through a strength test video on Youtube.

Udate:
Fox & Freeze is a collaboration between Belgian designers James van Vossel (a vos is Dutch for Fox) and Tom de Vrieze (freeze is an English translation of vriezen). Not every reader will be aware that Belgium is a two language country: Dutch in the more northern and western parts and French in the more eastern and southern parts that are closer to France.

Since there is a bench in the screen of my prior post, off course, I would like to know what bench and by whom:

Marie Caroline’s Bench by Spanish designer Mr Tom, who is based in Madrid.

Mr Tom says:

Marie Caroline “is a bench that takes as reference a world that is often obsolete and boring, those objects that we often find in our grandparents’ house

but doesn’t divulge much about the materials used. Anyway I don’t find the result boring at all!
