Chris McNicholl™’s TweetingSeat is more than just a Twitter-themed bench, it’s an interactive seat designed to try and connect our digital and physical worlds. Each time someone sits down, TweetingSeat uploads an image from two cameras to the Twitter feed. One camera is located on the bench looking at the surrounding space, and another is located nearby looking at the people who use it.

Happy Easter! – Tato Egg Seat by Denis Santachiara

Tato is a pouf or a footrest in an elliptical shape of an egg designed by Denis Santachiara back in 1995.

Since then the Tato collection grew to include other objects created in collaboration with Enrico Baleri: a spherical shaped Tatino, round shaped Tatone for two or more seaters, curved shaped Tato Bean and Tato Bonbon also for two or more seaters and a lens shaped Lunella.

Each object of the collection is made of flexible and ecological CFC-free polyurethane with internal anatomical rigid structure and plastic base.  The removable cover is available in three different types of bi-elastic fabric, each one in a variety of colors.

Ionic Bench by Laurie Beckerman

While we’re at the subject of Laurie Beckerman, let me also feature my first real bench – the Ionic bench by the aforementioned designer from New York, USA. This is by far the most elegant, the most unobtrusively simple in its curviness and the most luxurous wooden bench I’ve seen. Definately the kind of a bench to serve double duty as a seating object and a little piece of art! I would go even further, and suggest one can use it as a shelf or a table/magazine rack.

Made from one inch thick Baltic Birch plywood and fabricated with the use of CNC technology. Slices of the profile are laminated together to form this light and resilient bench.

Butterfly Chair by Laurie Beckerman

The Butterfly Chair by American architect and designer Laurie Beckerman was inspired by the “ethereal beauty of Lucite”. The sheer form of a butterfly is made from 3/4″ thick clear acrylic.

The chair will be exhibited at this year’s ICFF show at the Javits center in NYC.
